Diaconal Issues Desk

The Diaconal Issues Desk was established to live out the gospel message of service to God’s people and all creation. The core of this program’s ministry is taken from Luke 4:18 & 19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of the sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Just as Jesus was brought into this world to free us from suffering the bondage of death, so too are we sent forth to bring the the good news and uplift those who are in bondage to the shackles of poverty and oppression in our world today.

The foundation of Diakonia is the call to minister and care for the needs of humanity and God’s creation, as a whole. LUCSA’s Diaconal Issues Desk works in partnership with our Nordic partners through the LUNODIA Project (LUCSA+Nordic+Diakonia). LUNODIA enables us to engage in capacity building and facilitation within our member churches.
As a facilitator within the sub-region LUCSA aims to aid in capacity building, the promotion of networking and coordination between member churches through LUNODIA.

There are five key principles of LUNODIA:

  1. Networking Between LUCSA, Its Member Institutions, and Our Nordic Partners to Promote Diakonia as a Response to Human Crisis
  2. Awareness Raising
  3. Training Member Churches to Address Human Crisis Within the Sub-Region
  4. Development of New and Practical Approaches to Respond to Human Crisis
  5. Promotion of Advocacy

The Diakonia Program is currently working to develop a Disaster & Emergency Response Management Team to be able to respond quickly and effectively when disasters strike our sub-region.

The very foundation of our Diakonia Program is woven throughout the fabric of LUCSA’s overall mission within the sub-region. As a program Diakonia has developed into LUCSA’s voice of action against injustice, the alleviation of suffering & poverty, and the organization’s driving force behind advocacy and outreach. As is the case with all of LUCSA’s Programming, Diakonia’s purpose is inextricably linked to the gospel, through the cross, to serve the needs of God’s people.
