Job Title: Gender Justice Program Officer
Location: LUCSA Head Office Bonaero Park, Johannesburg
Purpose:
The Lutheran Communion in Southern Africa (LUCSA) is a sub-regional expression of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), working to serve 15 member churches in 10 southern African countries through reconciliation, transformation and empowerment; for holistic, relevant and contextual mission in word and deed to achieve peace and justice in church and society.
Our communion functions together, as a unified body, to address the various challenges facing our sub-region. Our mission is to facilitate our member churches in capacity building and the mobilization of resources to meet their needs.
The incumbent will work closely in the Department of Mission and Diakonia reporting directly to DMD head. The main purpose of the position is to focus on advocacy for gender justice in close cooperation with the DMD ensuring advocacy is rooted in Lutheran theology.
In consistence with LUCSA & LWF policies, Assembly and Council resolutions the purpose of this position is to contribute to enhanced capacity and awareness on gender justice and women´s human rights in member churches. In her-his role, the incumbent will handle, share and safeguard information relevant to the theme, provide logistics in organizing travels and events. The job involves a lot of travelling and spending most of the time in remote areas.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Gender Studies or equivalent.
- Project management experience and training.
- At least 3-year international experience preferably with faith-based/ ecumenical organization.
- Proficiency in English, and ideally Portuguese.
- Advanced level in office suite, database and content management system (CMS).
- Knowledge of financial administration or bookkeeping/accounting.
Additional Study, Experience and Skills
- Working experience in relation with development project management in gender mainstreaming and development issues.
- Proven experience in writing English advocacy/communication papers accessible to various audiences.
- Proven ability to interact and work in various cultural environments.
- Knowledge of LUCSA member churches, mission societies, LWF related agencies and/or ecumenical organizations.

The remuneration package is competitive but commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience and will be disclosed to the successful applicant.
